immersive EARTH

In the 2000’s, David Conover’s team developed a new format of broadcast television, called “Experiential TV" and subsequently “Slow TV.” This is radically observational and immersive TV, exemplified by their nature series Sunrise EARTH. It shows you less, and takes a long time to do it. No music. Not a single spoken word. The natural sights and sounds of each episode are recorded in a remote location on one morning, as the sun appears. A second series, titled Big Picture EARTH, slowly looks at landscapes and human structures that have endured thousands of years. Series number three is BlueMarvel, released in 2024.

ABOUT Sunrise Earth

“However stressed your day, this devastatingly simple project soothes the soul… a reminder that however grim things look, the earth turns, the sun rises, and nature endures.”

-ANDREW SULLIVAN, THE ATLANTIC

“…crazily uneventful and thoroughly wonderful!”

-TOM SHALES, TV WEEK

culture & science EARTH

The power of story is front-and-center in this human-focused collection: from one of the very oldest narratives of civilizations’ texts and music (Behold the EARTH), to the contemporary experiences of local filmmakers from around the world. The collection also includes essays on “living slow” (Sunrise DIARIES), plus profile short stories on favorite topics like the ocean and life-with-alternative-energy.

ABOUT Behold the Earth

“…inspires viewers in the same manner nature has inspired scientists and laypersons portrayed in the film. A truly unique vision unlike any other environmental film.”

-MARK MADISON, U.S. FISH & WILDLIFE HISTORIAN
